A Subaru Solterra was spotted in Cooma, Australia, ahead of the electric vehicle’s (EV’s) launch in the country, as reported by The Driven on Thursday.

Daryl Waldock shared a picture of the Solterra in a Facebook group dedicated to Kia EV6 ownership. The vehicle had just completed charging, and Waldock spoke with Subaru staff before the EV was moved.

In the post, Waldock said he “found this rare specimen at Cooma today. One of only 2 Subaru Solterras in Australia.”

Waldock went on to say he still prefers his Kia EV6, and that the Solterra was in the New South Wales highlands shooting a promotional video for TV.

The vehicle was confirmed by one Subaru spokesperson, who called it an “overseas pre-production example.”

“More information regarding anticipated timings and Australian specification will be revealed in due course,” the spokesperson added.

The Subaru Solterra is set to be launched in Australia in 2023 and it’s built on the same platform as the Toyota bZ4X, which faced a recall earlier this year due to some of the wheels falling off.

Unlike most EVs the Subaru Solterra also has two separate charge ports, including both a Type 1 connector for AC charging and a CHAdeMO connector for DC fast-charging.
