Tesla has started sending out in-app messages urging California owners to charge at off-peak hours, to help alleviate stress on the state’s grid due to the ongoing heat wave.
“The current heat wave is expected to stress California’s grid this weekend. Use the Scheduled Departure setting to ensure your vehicle is charged and preconditioned to your preferences at time of departure, while avoiding charging during higher price evening hours between 4-9pm,” explains Tesla’s message sent to owner vehicles (via Reddit).
Yesterday, the @TeslaCharging account urged owners to use Scheduled Departure to ensure a full charge at your time of departure, sharing a tutorial on the feature:

The message reminds Tesla owners in California to charge up at off-peak hours, to ensure they’ll be fully charged and also avoid stressing the grid, under pressure already from a heat wave.
There’s another Tesla Virtual Power Plant event slated for tonight from 5-8pm, where Powerwall owners can send (and sell) energy back to the grid. The most recent Virtual Power Plant saw over 3600+ homes participate.
