Lucid Motors Appoints Ex-Apple Engineer to VP of Platform Software Engineering
Lucid Motors has appointed Derrick Carty as its new Vice President of Platform Software Engineering, as detailed in a press release shared on Thursday.
Carty will primarily focus on software updates, ranging from features like ADAS’s embedded platform, audio architecture, hardware and systems architecture and much more.
Lucid’s Senior Vice President of Digital Michael Bell said, “I am thrilled to have Derrick Carty join the team at Lucid as Vice President of Platform Software Engineering.” Bell continued, “Derrick’s wealth of experience with systems architecture and his ability to lead teams that create customer friendly, easy-to-use software interfaces is crucial as we continue to roll out new Lucid Air features via our over-the-air software updates.”

Carty was at Apple for 23 years before this position, working on firmware and controller systems, as well as the group supplying Macs with their software. Carty also has a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Stanford, and he recently served as a consultant for Lucid’s Infotainment Software team.
Lucid recently unveiled the Air Sapphire for a starting price of $249,000. The automaker’s vehicles are currently considered luxury vehicles and are somewhat expensive. Still, the company has only delivered a small number of cars on the year, and will likely need a few years to ramp-up production and sales.
