Tesla appears to be limiting new existing inventory sales to nearby states, according to its website.
As spotted by WaitingForTesla.com (@w4tsla), when trying to purchase a new existing inventory Tesla vehicle, such as the Model Y above in Tennessee, delivery locations are limited to nearby states.
The Tesla Model Y Long Range seen above is available in Bartlett, Tennessee. But when you enter a ZIP code for a delivery center further away than a nearby state, a limitation message is shown. We entered in a California ZIP code, and the website replied, “This car can only be registered in AL, KY, LA, MS, TN”.

It’s unclear why Tesla has made this change, but it likely appears to be limiting existing new sales to a specific area, thereby preventing resellers from nabbing up existing cars and transferring them across the nation. The limitation also applies even when pick up is the only option, and not just for delivery to a nearby service center.
