Recent reports in late July claimed Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk was planning to build his own private airport east of Texas, near Bastrop, wrote Austonia citing unnamed sources.
On Thursday, August 4, 2022, Musk poured cold water on this rumor, saying it was “not true.”
“Not true. Tesla is 5 mins from Austin International airport. Would be silly to build another private airport, however the existing commercial airport needs another runway, as Austin is growing fast!”, said Musk in response to a tweet from MySanAntonio.
Tesla headquarters are now at the company’s new Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. Musk also has the headquarters for The Boring Company near Austin Executive Airport.
Musk travels frequently between Texas and California and it was said the new private airport would save travel time, but according to the Tesla CEO, it’s just not true. The CEO also frequently heads down to SpaceX’s Boca Chica facility, located by a 5.5 hour drive south of the company’s Austin Gigafactory.
