SpaceX shared a link to a YouTube video today, from Canadian photographer Tim Shields, who was able to host what he says was the world’s first live webinar from the edge of the Grand Canyon.

The SpaceX Twitter account said, “Grand Canyon mode unlocked”, with a link to Starlink’s recently announced RV service, which offers the satellite internet service on a month-to-month basis, where coverage is available.

“I used a Starlink internet dish to host the world’s first live webinar from the edge of the Grand Canyon. This would have been impossible just a few weeks before the live event, but after Starlink enabled the roaming feature, the live webinar became a reality,” explained Shields. The webinar had 2,000 people join, in an area where Shields said had no electricity or cell coverage. But with a Jackery power supply and Starlink, it was possible.

“The photography webinar was hosted in the remote wilderness three hours away from the nearest paved road. Power was provided with solar panels and a Jackery power supply. High-speed internet was provided by Starlink and sales were made through the Clickfunnels platform,” wrote the photographer, a former RCMP officer from Vancouver, B.C.

Shields explains the event was so successful, that his next live webinar will take place in the remote wilderness of the Rocky Mountains, with the help of Starlink. “Thank you Starlink, who made this possible,” said the photographer.

This is just one of the new frontiers of Starlink satellite internet, allowing for a connection to the internet from some of the most remote areas on Earth.
