The Canadian government announced on Tuesday it will be investing $937,250 CAD ($750,128 USD) to bring 107 electric vehicle chargers to the province of New Brunswick.
The EV chargers will be installed by NB Power across the province, funded by Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP). Locations will include public places, multi-unit residential buildings, on streets, workplaces or at facilities for servicing light-duty vehicle fleets by March 2024, says the government.
“We’re making electric vehicles more affordable and charging more accessible where Canadians live, work and play. Investing in more EV chargers, like the ones announced today in New Brunswick, will put more Canadians in the driver’s seat on the road to a net-zero future and help achieve our climate goals,” said Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, in a statement.
The federal government says it has invested $1 billion CAD to make EVs more affordable and chargers widely available for Canadians. So far over 130,000 Canadians and businesses have used federal rebates to purchase zero-emission vehicles, while investments made to date will result in over 25,000 new EV chargers across the country.
