Tesla 2021.43.102.5 Update: ‘Range Display Calibration’ for LFP Batteries [PIC]

According to Tesla’s recent 2021.43.102.5 software update, received by Jeremy C. on Facebook, the release notes indicate it addresses ‘Range Display Calibration’.

“The range display in your vehicle is undergoing calibration. Until calibrated, displayed range may under or overestimate compared to distance driven,” reads the update description.
“To improve accuracy, charge to 100% and wait until the charge port LED turns solid green, indicating a completed charging session. It is recommended for this configuration of vehicle to keep your charge limit set to 100%, even for daily use, and that you also fully charge to 100% at least once per week,” says Tesla.
Earlier this month, we saw Tesla owners say in-car messages said the company was overriding their charging limits and adjusting to 100% for “battery calibration”.
Tesla is deploying newer lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries that debuted last fall in the United States. LFP batteries are made by Tesla’s Chinese supplier CATL and first debuted at Giga Shanghai for the Model 3 and Model Y. These batteries allow for charging up to 100% and if not done so, range estimates are not displayed accurately, as noted in Tesla’s detailed notes above.
Another reason for charging LFP batteries to 100% is to address newer 12V lithium-ion batteries from dying, as without a full charge, these batteries don’t get fully charged up either.
