Volkswagen of America announced on Tuesday its EPA-estimated fuel economy figures for its 2022 ID.4 electric SUV.

The ID.4 Pro gains 20 miles of EPA-estimated range over its predecessor, up to 280 miles (versus 260 miles in the 2021 model).

  • ID.4 Pro: 280 miles
  • ID.4 Pro S RWD: 268 miles
  • ID.4 AWD Pro: 251 miles
  • ID.4 AWD Pro S: 245 miles of range.

To put these numbers into perspective, Tesla’s Model Y AWD gets up to 330 miles of range with 19-inch Gemini Wheels.

As for fuel economy for when it comes to MPGe?

  • ID.4 Pro: 121 MPGe in city driving; 102 MPGe in highway driving; 112 MPGe in combined city/highway
  • ID.4 Pro S: 115 MPGe in city driving; 97 MPGe in highway driving, 106 MPGe in combined city/highway
  • ID.4 AWD: 106 MPGe in city driving; 96 MPGe in highway driving, 101 MPGe in combined city/highway
  • ID.4 AWD Pro S: 100 MPGe in city driving; 90 MPGe in highway driving, 95 MPGe in combined city/highway

Volkswagen says all ID.4 models include an 82kWh battery, offering 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque.

The ID.4 AWD gains a motor on the front axle, resulting in 295 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque.

DC fast-charging speeds also got a bump for 2022, now at 135 kW (versus 125 kW before). All 2022 ID.4 models include three years of unlimited 30-minute charging sessions at Volkswagen’s Electrify America DC fast chargers.

For 2022, the ID.4 will soon get a Plug and Charge feature to make charging simpler, similar to Tesla’s Superchargers.

2022 ID.4 pricing starts at $40,760 USD MSRP for the RWD Pro; ID.4 AWD Pro starts at $44,440 USD. Pro S models are priced from $45,260 USD for rear-wheel drive and $48,940 USD for all-wheel drive. Destination charges for all ID.4 cars are at $1,195.

Last week, VW CEO Herbert Deiss held an ‘Ask Me Anything’ (AMA) on Reddit, and answered various questions posed by fans of the company. He noted the 2021 ID.4 would get AutoHold and also Plug and Charge features this summer, via over-the-air software updates.
