Ford Poaches Tesla Engineer to Lead ‘Advanced EV Development’

Ford has hired away Tesla engineer Alan Clarke, who previously held positions as Director of New Programs Engineering, Senior Manager of New Programs Engineering and Senior Design Engineer at Elon Musk’s company.
According to Clarke’s LinkedIn (via Automotive News), he departed Tesla in January after working at electric automaker for nearly 12.5 years. His new position with Ford is ‘Advanced EV Development’, a position he started last month in California. Earlier this week, Clarke announced the change on LinkedIn about his new position with Ford.
Ford confirmed Clarke will be reporting to Doug Field, who previously was poached from Apple by the automaker. Ford plans to make 600,000 electric vehicles in the next 24 months, according to CEO Jim Farley.
Taking a page from Tesla, Ford is now making frequent changes to its electric vehicles such as the Mach-E, revealing it had reduced manufacturing costs by $1,000 for the latter, through efficiencies.
