Tesla has shared a new video demonstrating its HEPA filters in every new Model S, Model X and Model Y, by using a smoke grenade.
A Model Y with Bioweapon Defense Mode, which leverages a HEPA filter, was parked beside a BMW with a regular filtration system. Next, multiple smoke grenades emit red smoke and we can see that the BMW cabin fills with red particulates, while the Model Y stays clean throughout.
“Inspired by air filtration systems used in hospitals, clean rooms and the aerospace industry, Tesla’s HEPA filtration removes 99.97% of airborne particulate, such as smoke, bacteria and pollen. By positively pressurizing your cabin with Bioweapon Defense Mode, we prevent pollutants from leaking in as you drive, instead filtering all air through the HEPA and gas media filter. Every new Model Y, S and X comes standard with a HEPA filter and Bioweapon Defense Mode,” explains Tesla.

Back in 2016, Tesla offered a similar demo with a Model X and Bioweapon Defense Mode. The only vehicle that lacks the feature is the Model 3, which Tesla says has no room for HEPA filters.
