Tesla Partners with Canada’s Exco Technologies for Tooling Giga Press

Tesla’s Giga Press casting machines produce single-cast molds of its vehicles during production of its vehicles, and a new update emphasizes the automaker’s relationship with a Canadian company that specializes in casting.

Tesla is partnering with Exco Technologies Limited, a small, Canada-based casting company,  according to a statement from Exco Tech CEO Darren Kirk in an earnings call on Friday, reports Teslarati.

While Tesla’s Giga Presses set to go into Gigafactory Austin and Berlin – and the one they already use in Fremont – were made by Italian casting company Idra, it appears Tesla also gets many of its shot and tooling parts for the Giga Presses from Exco Technologies.

During the Q3 earnings call, Kirk said, “Our Castool division is already the primary supplier of all shot and tooling for Tesla’s Giga Presses globally. This provides a clear indication of the depth we have in the design and know-how required to meet the challenges of the industry. We expect traditional OEMs will follow Tesla’s lead in using this larger die-cast machines as they transition to an EV future.”

Kirk also emphasized hopes to double-down on Exco’s relationship with Tesla, saying that the automaker has a growing customer base and emphasizing that he sees a “significant opportunity to expand on that” for Exco.
