Polestar Launches Digital Key and Updated App Integration

In a press release on Tuesday, Polestar announced the launch of its new digital key and updated app for the Polestar 2, which effectively turns the owner’s smartphone into their secure car key–just like Tesla.
The upgrade came in the form of the company’s most recent over-the-air (OTA) update, and also included new integrated vehicle functionality in a beta format.
Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said, “The Polestar Digital Key is one of our most anticipated features, because the convenience of not having to carry a physical key is invaluable.”
Ingenlath continued, “Being able to use your phone as the key makes sense especially in an age where our phones take care of most of our daily needs already, and it’s the one device you always carry with you.”

According to the release, security has remained a high priority for Polestar, especially while developing this digital key. The technology utilizes 18 Bluetooth sensors in and around the Polestar 2, which will integrate directly with paired devices to increase security, accuracy, and ease of use.
Polestar announced last month that it had raised $550 million (USD) from new investors, including Chongqing Chengxing Investment Fund Partnership, Zibo Financial Holding, Zibo Hightech Industrial Investment, and SK Inc, a South Korean global conglomerate.
