Canada to Install 20 New Electric Vehicle Chargers Across Township of King in Ontario

The government of Canada announced on Monday it will invest $200,000 CAD ($158,000 USD) to install 20 new electric vehicle chargers across the Township of King, in the province of Ontario.

The announcement was made by Deb Schulte, Minister of Seniors and Member of Parliament for King–Vaughan, on behalf of Seamus O’Regan Jr., Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources.

The investment will encourage more Ontarians to adopt zero-emission vehicles, says Natural Resources Canada. Funding for the new EV chargers is from Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program, which aims to have all new cars sold in the country emission-free by 2040.

The Township of King also provided $336,000 CAD in funding, taking the total cost of the project to over $536,000. The King Township is located in the York region, about a 50-minute drive north of Toronto.

“Investments in green infrastructure are bringing us closer to a zero-emission future by helping Ontarians make greener choices, improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” said Schulte, in a statement.

Canada says it has invested over $600 million CAD to make EVs more affordable, plus also a coast-to-coast charging network of fast chargers, plus more localized locations for charging as well.
