Tesla Autopilot Full Self-Driving Beta vs Waymo in Grocery Store Run [VIDEO]

Waymo CEO John Krafcik claims that Tesla “isn’t a competitor” when it comes to autonomous driving, but how does this claim hold up on the road?

Wednesday, YouTube channel Whole Mars Catalog uploaded a new video featuring a race between Tesla’s Autopilot Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta and Waymo’s autonomous driving system – both on the same route, and both reaching their destination with zero interventions.

The video was initially shared in a series of tweets from the channel, featuring perspectives from both autonomous systems.

Despite Krafcik’s claims, it turns out that Tesla is a competitor to Waymo, with the FSD system arriving at the destination almost three minutes sooner than Waymo’s navigation system.

Still, both technologies are fairly new, and are collecting new data constantly – so the more they drive, the more the artificial intelligence (AI) systems can learn about the roads and driving in general.

It’s worth noting that neither system portrayed in the video required any interventions, which is pretty cool considering how young the technology really is, only having released in beta last year. We’re certainly on the fast track to a self-driving future, and seeing it in action is  pretty spectacular.
