President Biden Plans to Replace Federal Fleet with Electric Vehicles
President Joe Biden has some ambitious plans for the United States to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.
On Monday, the President said, “The federal government also owns an enormous fleet of vehicles, which we’re going to replace with clean electric vehicles made right here in America, by American workers.”
Biden said the plan will produce “millions of jobs” for the auto industry, adding zero-emissions vehicles onto the road.

He also said this was the “largest mobilization of public investment and procurement infrastructure and R&D since World War II.”
Data from the General Services Administration notes there are close to 650,000 federal government vehicles, as of 2019 (via The Verge).
Regarding Joe Biden's plan to replace the government’s fleet of cars and trucks with electric vehicles assembled in the U.S, currently only Tesla, General Motors and Nissan make EV's in the U.S.

According to the President’s Made in America website, the administration plans the following electric vehicle efforts:
- Make a New $300 Billion Investment in Research and Development (R&D) and Breakthrough Technologies — from electric vehicle technology to lightweight materials to 5G and artificial intelligence — to unleash high-quality job creation in high-value manufacturing and technology.
- Commit to purchasing tens of billions of dollars of clean vehicles and products to support the expansion of clean energy generation capacity, ensuring we are on the forefront of the clean energy export markets of the future. Other countries should be buying the next generation of battery technology and electric vehicles manufactured by American workers.
- Dedicated grants and funding to help manufacturers retool and build new factories will help ensure U.S. global leadership in electric vehicle manufacturing, including EV components and batteries.
It’s clear this ‘buy America’ plan, especially when it comes to EVs, will benefit the likes of Tesla, as the latter has a factory in California. It’s clear the EV revolution is about to get jumpstarted by President Biden and his team. Exciting times are ahead.
