Watch Live: SpaceX Falcon 9 Launches SiriusXM Satellite into Space [VIDEO]
SpaceX never sleeps, it appears, as its SXM-7 mission will launch at 9:20am PST/12:20pm EST today, with Falcon 9 standing by and ready.
“SpaceX is targeting Friday, December 11 at 12:20 p.m. EST, or 16:20 UTC, for the launch of the SXM-7 mission, which will launch from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida,” explains the company.
The launch window closes on Friday at 1:20 p.m. EST, or 18:20 UTC. A backup launch opportunity will take place on Saturday, December 12 with a one-hour and 59-minute launch window opening at 11:21 a.m. EST, or 16:21 UTC, according to SpaceX.
This is the same Falcon 9 booster that sent Crew Dragon’s first flight to the International Space Station. After the stage separation, Falcon 9 will land on the drone ship “Just Read the Instructions” in the Atlantic Ocean.
Falcon 9 will be carrying a next-generation satellite for SiriusXM, a high power S-band broadcast satellite. This is the first of two SiriusXM satellites SpaceX will be sending into space for the satellite radio company.
Update 9:59am PST: The launch was scrubbed with 30 seconds to go and SpaceX will try again tomorrow it appears attempt the launch on Sunday.
