Another Polestar 2 Recall is Here for Over 4,500 Vehicles
A statement published Thursday by Polestar on its official website announced the inception of an opt-in safety recall and service campaign for the Polestar 2 units that have been delivered thus far.

The purpose of the safety recall is to replace inverters that have been found to be faulty on a total of 4,586 units delivered so far. The inverters are a core component of the vehicle as they convert stored electrical energy into the power that runs it.
The opt-in service campaign, on the other hand, is targeting faulty components in the High Voltage Coolant Heater (HVCH) that 3,150 of the earliest produced units were shipped with. The HVCH facilitates both interior heating and high voltage battery heating.
Polestar will be notifying customers affected by either issue and informing them of the steps they need to take starting Nov. 2. Considering the gravity of the defects, it is highly recommended that affected Polestar 2 owners send their cars in for repairs ASAP.
Polestar is confident that both problems can be dealt with in a single trip to the workshop, which will also involve a software upgrade to make the vehicle compatible with upcoming Over-The-Air (OTA) updates.
The press release also states that customers in the U.S., Switzerland, and Canada are not among those affected as Polestar 2 units have not begun shipping in these regions, and all undelivered units will be fixed before they’re sent on their way. Units currently already in for repairs will also have these issues fixed before they are handed over.
Having to initiate a complete recall of all Polestar 2 units over a “safety-critical” software glitch in early October, and then finding out they might have overestimated the EPA range on the vehicle as well, it certainly has been a rough month for the lovechild of Volvo Cars and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co.
While a “startup” like Tesla is out there reaching new heights every quarter, veteran automaker owned Polestar is reminiscent of a deer caught in headlights at the moment.
