Tesla Full Self-Driving Commute Test: Santa Clarita to Pasadena and Back [VIDEOS]
As more and more hand-picked Tesla owners are getting the company’s 2020.40.8.10 software update, which includes Full Self-Driving (Beta), we’re starting to see more videos surface online.
While we’ve seen short clips of Tesla’s FSD being tested with pedestrians, Smart Summon and roundabouts, we have yet to see a longer uninterrupted video. But James Locke, the founding president of the Tesla Owners Club Vancouver Island, has now shared two videos of FSD being put to the commute test. Locke is a Canadian that currently resides in Los Angeles.
“We simulated a normal commute for my wife from Santa [Clarita], CA to JPL in Pasadena, CA. Used city streets to highways with interchanges and back to city streets up to the JPL entry gates but we didn’t enter the JPL parking area,” explains Locke.
“Had lots of various situations, had a few interventions but overall very impressive for early beta of FSD,” said Locke.
Here’s the first video which spans just under 40 minutes, showing the uninterrupted drive from Santa Clarita to Pasadena in California. Almost halfway into the video, FSD visualizations switch off and the display moves back to regular Navigate on Autopilot when on the highway.
Locke told Tesla North he did see improvements in Navigate on Autopilot during his FSD beta tests:
…and here’s the commute back from Pasadena back to Santa Clarita:
So there you have it. A couple of commute videos in L.A. using FSD beta, which so far seems to handle city streets decently, including full left and right turns. “It’s doing extremely well, for an early beta build,” said Locke.
