LEGO Tesla Cybertruck Idea Rejected by Review Board

Back in December 2019, LEGO fan ‘BrickinNick’ submitted a Tesla Cybertruck idea to LEGO Ideas, the community forum where members can share ideas for possible new set builds.

Fast forward to September, and LEGO has announced the results of reviewing the project, which reached 10,000 supporters.

Sadly, LEGO says they will not be pursuing a Tesla Cybertruck set, in an updated shared on September 30, 2020.

“Our team has thoroughly considered the possibility of releasing this project as a LEGO set according to the criteria of the LEGO Review. Unfortunately the LEGO Review Board has decided that we will not produce this project as a set,” explains the company.

“Thank you to BrickinNick for the passion and creativity that went into this project, and to all of you who voted so that we would have the opportunity to consider this as a potential LEGO set. We’re sorry to deliver this disappointing news,” added the LEGO Review Board.

By reaching 10,000 supporters, the Tesla Cybertruck idea met the qualifications for review by the “LEGO Review Board”, which includes “professional set designers, product managers, marketing representatives, and other key team members,” which take a look at each qualified project.

Sad news for sure for the Tesla community—this would have been a hit.

It’s a bit disappointing that LEGO decided not to move forward with the Tesla Cybertruck set. The futuristic design of the Cybertruck fits perfectly with LEGO’s creative and innovative spirit, and I think many fans would have loved to build it. I can imagine how incredible it would look illuminated with custom light kits from https://lelightgo.com/ — the sharp edges and metallic look would shine even brighter. This is one of those sets that truly deserves to stand out, and adding lights could make it feel even more realistic and futuristic, just like the real Tesla vehicle itself.
