Tesla Model Y Owners Shocked at ‘MacGyver’ Install on Cooling System Part
Some Tesla Model Y owners are shocked and some impressed at the electric vehicle maker’s ingenuity or lack thereof, when it comes to the cooling system on the new compact SUV.
One Tesla Motors Club forum member shared an image of their Model Y and the liquid cooled condenser (LCC), part of the refrigerant manifold subsystem, attached in a horizontal position with a metal strap, along with pieces of wood trim that are readily available from Home Depot (via The Drive).
“Someone made a run to Home Depot to make Q2 numbers,” joke TMC user ‘Brown1428’, who then shared the image below, on his thread titled, “Found this little gem on my $55K Model Y”:
During Sandy Munro’s Model Y teardown, he also spotted this part and assembly and had no issues with the modification, which looks to differ and evolve based on the vehicle production date.
One user noted their first Model Y and its LCC came with yellow tape and clear plastic, instead of wood. The user ‘MorrisonHiker’ described how their second Model Y came with green wrap and white plastic instead:
The TMC forum thread is full of Model Y owners and observers shocked about the discovery, while some are the opposite, impressed with Tesla’s ingenuity and ability to “MacGyver” a fix on the fly, it seems.
Nevertheless, you would think for a $55,000 USD vehicle, a more permanent mounting solution would present itself. There’s no doubt Tesla will eventually make this better over time, as we’ve already seen with numerous photos shared in the thread. It’s just the fact the wood trim piece looks incredibly odd inside the Model Y.
