General Motors to Enter Electric Vehicle Market with Van for Business Users
A major automotive player announced plans to throw their hat into the ring of electric vehicle production. It seems that more and more companies are emerging lately to compete with the current leader (Tesla) in the electric vehicle space. We’ve already seen major retail companies such as Amazon adopt and popularize electric vans. Younger start up companies like Nikola unveiled plans for electric semi-trucks. But now the automotive titan General Motors has released plans for its own electric van.
The company announced plans to release its electric van by late 2021. The plan comes in light of another major automobile manufacturer, Ford, committing to releasing an electric van as well. The race toward greater electric vehicle production proves fruitful for the market and the environment as a whole.
As sources at The Drive and Reuters report, Part of GM’s scheme to prepare 20 new electric vehicles by 2023, the electric van codenamed “BV1” will according to Reuters enter production late next year. It will reportedly utilize the automaker’s cutting-edge Ultium battery system, and borrow some powertrain components from upcoming electric pickup and SUV offerings, such as the GMC Hummer EV.”
Adapting modern electric vehicle systems to larger vehicle types seems to be gaining some traction. Tesla plans to begin production of its famed Cybertruck soon. The company also continues work on the Tesla Semi. With larger car manufacturers planning electric vans, the market looks to be expanding rapidly.
