Tesla Up Against Multiple Lawsuits in China

Electric vehicle maker Tesla Inc. has had some success expanding into the Chinese market. However, the company has also had its fair share of trouble in the Asian market. Earlier in the year, customers expressed dissatisfaction over some errors in chips sent out with the China-made Model 3. While that case lingers, Tesla faces numerous civil lawsuits in The People’s Republic of China.

According to sources at TechNode, Tesla faces “at least eight civil lawsuits by Chinese individuals and two possible class-action lawsuit over “disputes in sales contracts,” according to information released recently on the Shanghai city court system.” Many of the lawsuits surround issues over pricing and what customers refer to as deceptive sales tactics.

One such case centers around the upcoming release of the long range version of the Model 3. Many consumers complain that the vehicle’s release date was never transparent. Such issues mount up to create a significant source of legal tension for Tesla in the region. People also complained about the motivations behind a 10% price cut to the Model 3, as reported by sources Reuters earlier in the season.

Even so, Tesla’s mark on China remains strong. With a productive Gigafactory located in Shanghai and new made in China Model 3s being delivered, Tesla shows no signs of slowing down in the Asian market.
