Tweets Suggest Tesla May Be Moving Out of California
Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter this week once again. In this week’s statements, Musk addressed his frustrations with local California authorities regarding the shut downs of the Tesla factory located in Fremont, California. In the tweets, Musk threatened to move production from California to Texas or Nevada. The tweets followed a phase of coronavirus shutdowns that left Tesla’s main production factory closed for nearly eight weeks.
Musk also publicized the fact that Tesla is filing a lawsuit against Alameda County. In the tweet he said, “Tesla is filing a lawsuit against Alameda County immediately. The unelected & ignorant “Interim Health Officer” of Alameda is acting contrary to the Governor, the President, our Constitutional freedoms & just plain common sense!”
Frankly, this is the final straw. Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately. If we even retain Fremont manufacturing activity at all, it will be dependen on how Tesla is treated in the future. Tesla is the last carmaker left in CA.

But that’s not all Musk had to say. In a follow up tweet, the CEO even suggested moving Tesla production out of California altogether. In Musk’s words, “Frankly, this is the final straw. Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately. If we even retain Fremont manufacturing activity at all, it will be dependen on how Tesla is treated in the future. Tesla is the last carmaker left in CA.” In any case, Tesla plans to continue its efforts to resume production in the coming weeks. However, further tussles with local law enforcement may complicate things.
