Tesla May Reopen its California Gigafactory Sooner Than Expected

The coronavirus outbreak in the United States has caused many problems for Tesla Inc. Namely, their factory in Fremont, California has been shut down for some time now. However, thanks to some loosening stay at home orders in California, Tesla may be looking to reopen sooner than expected.

A series of tweets from California state governor marked some new relaxed stay at home orders. Because the state has made positive progress toward flattening the curve of the virus, the leadership now looks to begin easing up on quarantine orders. As Newsom’s tweet states, “CA is led by data and SCIENCE. Based off our progress, we’ll begin to gradually move into Stage 2 this FRIDAY. Some sectors where there’s a lower risk of transmission will be able to adapt & re-open with modifications. This will include some retail and manufacturing/logistics.”

Of course, the mention of manufacturing and logistics at the end may refer to companies like Tesla. However, with some of the looser guidelines applying to more consumer-facing businesses offering curbside pickup services, it’s not clear whether Tesla has been cleared to reopen yet.

In any case, the light at the end of the tunnel seems to be approaching. This news comes as a positive report for Tesla who has had to slow operations during one of their busiest periods.
