Tesla Applied for a License to Supply the UK with Electricity
While Tesla Inc. is usually noticed for its electric vehicles such as the new Model Y, many people forget that the company also provides green energy solutions. Those living in the UK may be seeing Tesla-sourced electricity in the future. According to sources at The Telegraph, “U.S. electric carmaker Tesla Inc has applied for a licence to supply electricity in the United Kingdom.”
The source of the license application is not exactly certain at this point in time. Many speculate that the license is related to the Autobidder platform. Autobidder provides a platform for automated trading of energy. At the current time, Autobidder operates in South Australia.
Whether Tesla’s license application focuses on consumer-facing energy or Autobidder concerns, it’s clear that Tesla desires a presence in the United Kingdom. Earlier in the year, the company expanded into Canada. A company named Saint John Energy purchased a Tesla Megapack. With the purchase, the company estimated that they might save “up to $200,000 annually by using the battery.”
Just three years ago, Tesla built the world’s largest lithium-ion battery. They used the battery to power many locations throughout South Australia. With the new license application in the UK, the company looks to expand its energy efforts in new territories.
