New Video Shows Tesla Autopilot Avoiding Head-on Collision

On Highway 49 in Concord, North Carolina, a Tesla driver avoided a near head-on collision thanks to Tesla Autopilot.

In a recent video showcased by Fox 46 Charlotte, a driver explains his nightly commute. Spending hours on the road can be dangerous for drivers due to a number of factors. When a vehicle driving in the wrong lane suddenly appeared on the road, Tesla’s Autopilot feature took over to avoid an accident. As the driver explained, the vehicle first verified that the maneuver into the right lane was safe. The incident provides even more evidence for the comprehensive safety features offered by Tesla Autopilot.

Of course, drivers should always be aware when they’re behind the wheel. Features like Tesla Autopilot can certainly help, demonstrated by the dashboard cam video on Fox 46 Charlotte. But drivers should always be cognizant and present when operating a motor vehicle, even one equipped with autonomous driving capabilities.

Safety has always been one of the major barriers to public adoption when it comes to Tesla vehicles. In fact, the industry of autonomous vehicles, in general, has always received widespread speculation about the viability of safety features. As engineers gather more data and more examples such as the incident in Charlotte continue to spread, further trust in security systems such as Tesla Autopilot will only improve.
