Starlink Launches Community Host Program With Paid Internet Passes

Starlink Community Host program

Starlink has launched a new Community Host program that lets a single Starlink Kit deliver high-speed internet to multiple nearby users, with neighbors paying for flexible passes and the host earning income from every connection.

The program is detailed on Starlink’s community host page, which says one Starlink Kit can serve the surrounding area. Hosts order the kit and set up a community site, while coverage can be extended with additional routers or Starlink kits, similar to how Starlink’s $40 Router Mini can stretch Wi-Fi coverage in a home.

Instead of every household needing its own Starlink subscription, community members can buy passes for only the time they need. An Hour Pass covers one hour on one device, a Day Pass covers 24 hours on one device, a Week Pass covers seven days on one device, and a Month Pass covers one month on up to four devices.

Starlink says hosts earn income each month from every connection made through their site. The company handles payments, user access, and connectivity, leaving the host mainly responsible for installing and running the local site.

Anyone can apply to become a host, with Starlink pointing to property owners, business owners, and local entrepreneurs. The concept follows Starlink’s earlier exploration of shared dishes and complements its Community Gateway service for larger sites.

The setup could also be a boon for someone living near a festival site, park, or other busy gathering spot. A host in that position could sell paid passes to crowds needing temporary internet during events, then scale back when the crowds leave.

What to watch next is when Starlink Community becomes available in specific areas, what the passes will cost once pricing is announced, and how much of each pass hosts will actually keep. For now, Starlink is inviting interested hosts to sign up for a notification when the program launches in their area.
