The Vegas Loop is preparing for a massive expansion as work on its long-awaited airport connection nears completion.
According to Boring Company executive Mike Baier, the underground transit system currently handles roughly 40,000 passengers on busy convention days. That daily volume already surpasses most light rail networks in the United States, even with only a small portion of the overall system currently operational.
The next major leap for the project depends on opening two key airport connector tunnels in the coming months. These routes rank among the longest transportation tunnels constructed in the country over the past 25 years.
Once vehicles begin moving passengers through the new section, officials expect total ridership to jump dramatically.
“In a few months we will open the airport connector tunnels, which are two of the longest transportation tunnels built in the US in the last 25 years, and we believe ridership will 3x-4x as a result,” Baier shared in a recent post on X.
That projected surge would immediately push the Vegas Loop into the top 10 public transit systems across the nation based on total passenger counts. As additional miles and stations open throughout Las Vegas, project leaders anticipate the network eventually climbing into the top three or four overall.
