Tesla FSD in Europe: New April 10 Approval Date Expected for Self-Driving
Tesla is nearing the finish line for launching its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) technology in Europe. The company officially completed its final round of vehicle testing and has submitted all the paperwork required for regulatory approval in the Netherlands.
While the approval was originally expected by late March, the Dutch vehicle authority, RDW, is now aiming for a new date of April 10. Once the Netherlands gives the green light, other European countries can choose to recognize that approval locally. Tesla expects that a full, EU-wide approval could arrive as early as this summer.
The path to this milestone has been an 18-month marathon of research and audits. To prove the system is safe for European roads, Tesla conducted more than 1.6 million kilometres of testing across the continent and executed over 4,500 specific track test scenarios. The company also hosted 13,000 ride-alongs with customers to demonstrate the technology in real-world conditions.
The submission includes thousands of pages of documentation covering more than 400 different compliance requirements. Tesla’s team in Europe, Middle East, and Africa stated they are “extremely proud” of the collaboration with regulators so far and are eager to finally bring the feature to their “patient EU customers.”
