Waymo and DoorDash have announced a new partnership to launch autonomous food and grocery deliveries in Phoenix, marking another major step in expanding real-world applications of self-driving technology. The collaboration will see Waymo’s fully autonomous vehicles handling select DoorDash orders in Metro Phoenix over the coming months.

“In the coming months, DoorDash customers may be matched with a fully autonomous Waymo vehicle for their next delivery from a participating merchant across our 315 sq mile service area in Phoenix,” Waymo said in a press release.

“We are excited to make everyday errands easier with the Waymo Driver, offering the added peace of mind that comes with our safe and reliable technology. Through our partnership with DoorDash, we leverage our proven delivery experience to provide customers with a seamless, contact-free way to get items they need, whether it’s groceries or a quick bite,” said Nicole Gavel, Head of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships at Waymo.

David Richter, Vice President of Business and Corporate Development at DoorDash, added: “DashPass is designed to give consumers consistent value, convenience, and access to the best of their communities, and our partnership with Waymo builds on that promise. Together, we’re giving members access to, and savings on, a new and delightful experience, while advancing our vision for a multi-modal autonomous future of local commerce.”

The partnership will initially begin with deliveries from DashMart, DoorDash’s own convenience and grocery stores, before expanding to additional local merchants in Phoenix. Customers who opt in for autonomous delivery at checkout may be matched with a Waymo vehicle, and once it arrives, they can unlock the trunk using the DoorDash app to collect their order.

In addition to autonomous deliveries, DashPass members in Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Francisco will receive $10 off one Waymo ride each month through the end of 2025.

This partnership further strengthens Waymo’s position as one of the global leaders in autonomous driving technology. Earlier this week, the company announced plans to launch its fully driverless ride-hailing service in London starting in 2026.

Waymo currently operates in Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco, with testing underway in Tokyo and plans to bring its robotaxi service to Dallas next year. The company also recently became the first to secure approval for autonomous vehicle testing in New York City, though that authorization remains limited to controlled trials for now.

With over 100 million autonomous miles logged and more than 10 million paid trips completed, Waymo’s latest collaboration with DoorDash shows how self-driving technology is gradually moving from futuristic promise to everyday convenience.
