Lucid Motors has announced the delivery of its first engineering vehicle for what will eventually become an Uber-exclusive robotaxi network. The company shared the update on X, confirming that the vehicle has been delivered to autonomous driving technology company Nuro for integration with its Nuro Driver system.

This milestone comes just a couple of months after Lucid revealed a wide-ranging partnership with Uber and Nuro to build a global robotaxi network. Under that deal, Uber is expected to deploy more than 20,000 autonomous Lucid vehicles powered by Nuro’s self-driving tech across dozens of international markets over the next six years.

The program is expected to begin with a major U.S. city sometime in 2026. Lucid’s Gravity SUVs will serve as the robotaxis, equipped with the Nuro Driver, which is classified as a Level 4 autonomous driving system. These vehicles will be offered for ride-hailing exclusively through the Uber platform and operated either directly by Uber or through its fleet partners.

For Lucid, this marks not only an entry into the robotaxi space but also a potential transformation of its long-term business model. The Uber-exclusive fleet could help establish Lucid as a key supplier of purpose-built autonomous EVs at scale.

On the consumer side, Lucid isn’t slowing down either. Earlier this month, the company confirmed plans to launch three new midsize EVs, starting with a fully electric SUV expected in late 2026. These new models will complement Lucid’s premium lineup while broadening its market reach.

With its first robotaxi engineering vehicle now delivered, Lucid is signaling that its partnership with Uber and Nuro is moving from planning to execution. The next few years will be critical as Lucid balances its consumer EV roadmap with its ambitions to power one of the world’s largest autonomous ride-hailing services.
