SpaceX’s Starlink Slashes Monthly Fee for New U.S. Customers

SpaceX is offering new Starlink customers in the U.S. a rare discount on monthly fees, cutting the price of its Residential plan to $99 per month, down from $120. The Residential Lite plan is also dropping from $80 to $65.
SpaceX sent out emails this week promoting the offer. “Starlink is offering Residential plans from $90/mo for your first year. No commitment required. Additionally, receive 50% off the Standard Kit,” the company wrote.
The promotion is available for new customers only and applies for the first year of service, after which regular rates resume. Per SpaceX, the deal varies by location. It also appears to only be available in states where Starlink has excess capacity and offers the Residential Lite plan.
While this discount is separate from (and doesn’t stack with) the free dish offer the company ran earlier this year, SpaceX is also reducing the price of its standard Starlink dish nationwide from $349 to $175. The hardware discount is available through Starlink.com, Walmart, and Best Buy.
The new promotion could save Residential plan customers $252 over 12 months, or $180 for Residential Lite users. However, unlike the free dish offer, new customers will need to pay for the hardware upfront.
Starlink’s U.S. customer base has grown to over 2 million, up from 1.4 million a year ago, with the service nearly doubling its median download speeds in the country since 2022. Last month, SpaceX also surprised select existing subscribers worldwide with a 20% discount on their monthly bill for six months — another rare move from the company.
Outside the U.S., similar monthly fee discounts for new sign-ups have recently been spotted in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, suggesting SpaceX is pushing to grow its user base in key markets as competition in the satellite internet space intensifies. Starlink is reportedly also planning to let multiple subscribers share a single dish in the near future, lowering hardware costs.
