Tesla Board Shuts Down CEO Rumors, Musk Slams ‘False Article’
Tesla has publicly denied a media report suggesting that its board of directors was seeking a new CEO, calling the story “absolutely false.”
The company issued the statement via its official X account on Thursday, directly responding to an article that claimed the board had contacted recruitment firms to begin a CEO search.
“The CEO of Tesla is Elon Musk and the Board is highly confident in his ability to continue executing on the exciting growth plan ahead,” said Tesla Chair Robyn Denholm in the post. The company also said it had communicated this denial to the media outlet in question before the story was published.
Elon Musk later reposted the statement on X, calling out the original article. “It is an EXTREMELY BAD BREACH OF ETHICS that the @WSJ would publish a DELIBERATELY FALSE ARTICLE and fail to include an unequivocal denial beforehand by the Tesla board of directors!” Musk wrote.
The WSJ claimed Tesla’s board was exploring a new CEO to replace Elon Musk due to concerns about his divided focus across multiple companies and Tesla’s competitive challenges in the EV market.
As of writing, both links to the WSJ and Reuters are no longer showing on the web.
