Tesla China’s Weekly Sales Surge as New Model Y Drives Demand
Tesla’s momentum in China continues to build, with the company hitting its highest weekly insured units mark of the year so far.
For the week of March 24–30, Tesla China recorded 21,000 insured vehicle registrations, according to data shared by @Tslachan on X. That’s a significant jump from the previous week’s 17,400 units, and the strongest single-week performance in the first quarter of 2025.
Tesla uses insurance registration data as a proxy for sales, since it does not release weekly figures in China. These numbers suggest strong local demand, particularly following the launch of the new Model Y, which began deliveries in late February.
Tesla’s weekly figures have been steadily rising through March, with 15,300 units sold during March 10–16, 13,800 from March 3–9, and 12,400 in the week ending March 2.
As of March 30, Tesla China’s year-to-date total reached approximately 137,200 units—up from 133,200 over the same period in 2024.
The company sold about 657,000 vehicles in China last year, an 8.8% increase year-over-year. Sales were helped by popular models like the Model Y and Model 3, along with offers such as zero-interest financing and insurance subsidies in early 2025.
In March alone, Tesla sold 43,370 Model Y units in China, making it the country’s top-selling premium electric SUV that month.
Tomorrow Tesla will announce its Q1 earnings so let’s wait and see what the numbers will be.
