SpaceX Gears Up for Sixth Starship Test Flight on November 19
SpaceX plans to launch the sixth test flight of its Starship rocket on Tuesday, November 19, with a 30-minute window starting at 4:00 p.m. CT (2pm PT/5pm ET). The event will stream live on SpaceX’s website and X (@SpaceX), with updates available closer to launch. Previously, SpaceX planned to launch on November 18, but now it’s being pushed one day later.
This test builds on the fifth flight’s success, where the Super Heavy booster returned to the launch site and was caught by the “chopstick arms” of the catch tower. The Starship upper stage also completed a controlled splashdown in the Indian Ocean.
The sixth test aims to:
- Reattempt the booster’s return and catch at the launch site.
- Test an in-space engine burn for Starship.
- Push heat shield and maneuvering capabilities during reentry.
If conditions aren’t ideal for the booster’s catch, it will splash down in the Gulf of Mexico. This is going to be another exciting launch and it’s going to be incredible to watch “Mechzilla” catch the booster using its “chopsticks” once again.
Future tests, starting with the seventh, will feature significant upgrades, such as redesigned flaps and improved heat shields. SpaceX continues to refine Starship’s technology to achieve its goal of creating a fully reusable rocket system for space exploration.
