Tesla China Sets New Delivery Record; Creates Insurance Firm
Tesla China delivered 74,117 vehicles in July, setting a delivery record of 500,000 units by July this year, according to @Tslachan.
Roland Pircher noted that this was the highest monthly delivery since March and the second-best start to a quarter ever, with only Q2 2023 being slightly higher. While export figures have not yet been published, weekly insurance numbers from China provide a good estimate of local sales, and today’s wholesale numbers help calculate exports accurately.
It’s clear Giga Shanghai in China is firing on all cylinders, so to speak. It will be interesting to see Tesla’s Q3 numbers especially with recent 1.99% financing deals.
In other news, Tesla has registered an insurance broking firm in China at the end of July, according to a national corporate information database, reports Reuters.
This move indicates that Tesla may be attempting once again to gain approval to sell insurance products in the country. The new company, located in Beijing’s Central Business District, was established on July 30 with a registered capital of 50 million yuan ($6.92 million), as shown by the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System.
Tesla had previously sought regulatory approval to sell insurance products in China more than three years ago, registering a company in 2020 but removing that registration in April this year.
