Tesla has officially announced its referral program will end globally after April 30, 2024.
This information falls in line with what customers in South Korea were told earlier this week (via @Tslachan).
On Friday night, Tesla made it official, saying, “Our current referral program benefits will end after April 30 in all markets.”
Tesla’s referral program allowed existing owners to gain credits to redeem for merchandise and software upgrades, when friends and family purchased a new car using their referral link. For those using referral links, they ended up getting cash discounts or extended free trials of Full Self-Driving or Premium Connectivity.
It’s unclear when Tesla will bring back the program after it comes to an end at the end of April. It may come back in the fourth quarter as a way to push sales.
Update April 19, 10pm PDT: Elon Musk has clarified to say, “No, just that new credits would not be earned until we launch a future referral program, which is a few months away,” answering a question about whether existing credits will disappear or not.
Tesla recently announced an over 10% job cut of its global staff, a move the company said was made to ensure growth and efficiency.
