Tesla Deliveries to Include FSD 12.3.1 Demo Drive: Musk
It appears Tesla is going to start giving demo drives of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) version 12.3.1, according to an email from CEO Elon Musk to his entire team, as shared by @WholeMarsBlog.
Update: Musk “liked” the following quote post from Brett Winton, confirming the legitimacy of the email.
Musk writes starting now, all cars in North America will have to install and activate FSD version 12.3.1 and give customers a quick demo drive, before officially delivering new vehicles. He acknowledges this will undoubtedly “slow down the delivery process, but it is nonetheless a hard requirement.”
Check out the full email below:
Going forward, it is mandatory in North America to install and activate FSD V12.3.1 and take customers on a short test ride before handing over the car.
Almost no one actually realizes how well (supervised) FSD actually works.
I know this will slow down the delivery process, but it is nonetheless a hard requirement.
Thanks,
Elon
FSD 12.3 is currently available for beta testers as part of the 2023.44.30.25 software rollout and 2023.44.30.30 (FSD 12.3.1). Customers on the 2024.x.x branch have yet to see FSD 12.3 arrive.
As it stands, FSD costs an extra $12,000 USD or $16,000 CAD as an add-on in North America, offering city-streets driving on a single end-to-end neural network trained on millions of video clips, replacing over 300,000 lines of C++ code.
By offering a demo drive of FSD 12.3.1, customers will get to see the advanced tech and possibly add it to their new vehicle in a future in-app purchase.
Update: Looks like this will also apply to cars returned from service:
