Tesla Launches Powerwall 3, Begins Installations
Tesla has started the installation of its next-generation Powerwall 3 units, as reported by a TMC forum member, ‘andy92782’, based in Southern California. Powerwall is Tesla’s residential battery storage system that can store solar power or energy from the grid.
The member shared that the installer mentioned this was only the third Powerwall 3 installation he had undertaken. The new unit, measuring approximately 43″x24″x7″, now comes with an integrated inverter. Additionally, the Backup Gateway 2, which connects to the Powerwall 3, features a 60A circuit breaker.
However, the installation process wasn’t without its hitches. The member highlighted concerns about the routing of a ground wire from the system to the main water line feed, describing it as “ghetto” and expressed intentions to request a more aesthetically pleasing re-routing. The shipment label below shows “Powerwall 3”:
Here is an image of the sticker on the side panel of the Powerwall 3. It says it’s a lithium ion battery with 13.5 kWh and can operate in temperatures -20C to 50C.
In response to queries about the new product, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, commented to Sawyer Merritt, stating that the Powerwall 3 is “optimized for ease of installation & high power.”
Musk emphasized the significance of this upgrade, noting that a single Powerwall can now function as an uninterruptible power supply for most homes. He added, “This is a big deal for ensuring that the lights stay on and you can power all your devices in the event of a power outage,” without sharing any more specifics.
