Tesla Confirms 350kW V4 Superchargers in UK Application

Tesla has confirmed the development of its new V4 Superchargers, capable of delivering charging speeds of up to 350kW.

The discovery was found within a planning application submitted by Tesla for the installation of 36 electric vehicle (EV) charging units, including 16 V4 Superchargers, at the Swindon Designer Outlet North Car Park in the UK, as spotted by @TeslaOwnersUK.

The application outlines Tesla’s plans to expand its charging infrastructure, with the new V4 Superchargers set to significantly reduce charging times for Tesla owners. The company’s current V3 Superchargers have a maximum output of 250kW.

In addition to the 16 V4 Superchargers, the proposed development will also include 20 ChargePoint 6000 series EV chargers, each with a capacity of 22kW. All 36 proposed chargers will be universally compatible, expanding the charging options for all EV owners.

The planning statement reveals that the selection of the site was primarily driven by grid connections. Tesla stated that 50% of grid applications prove unfeasible due to grid capacity constraints and distance from proposed charging hubs. Therefore, when suitable sites with sufficient capacity become available, it is crucial to develop these sites to maximize the use of the grid and provide better nationwide coverage of EV charging points.

The proposed Tesla Superchargers will be available for use 24 hours a day and typically take around 30 minutes to charge a vehicle. When not in use, the equipment generates little to no noise.

The planning application is currently under review. If approved, the new charging hub will significantly enhance the EV charging infrastructure in Swindon and contribute to the UK’s broader efforts to support the transition to electric vehicles.
