Tesla App Hints at Apple AirPlay, Sentry Clips Playback
The latest Tesla app iOS update has provided a hint at what might be coming, according to a deep dive of the app code by @Tesla_App_iOS.
Notably, mention of Apple’s AirPlay protocol is seen, and the ability to playback Sentry clips within the app.
If true, the AirPlay support feature could allow Tesla owners to stream media directly from their Apple device to their Tesla vehicle, enriching the in-car entertainment experience. This advancement would mark a significant step towards seamless media integration between the Apple ecosystem and Tesla vehicles, offering users a familiar and convenient means to enjoy their preferred content while on the go.
Furthermore, the integration of Sentry clips playback within the app could offer Tesla drivers more accessible and immediate viewing of their vehicle’s security footage. This feature would enhance the functionality of the Tesla Sentry Mode, the car’s integrated security system, by providing an efficient way for users to review footage directly on their mobile devices.
These discoveries offer exciting hints at what might be in store for the users of Tesla’s iOS app. Tesla engineers are known for always creating fun features that delight users, and AirPlay would be a fantastic addition. We already have Apple Music for Tesla vehicles, but not Apple TV+ yet.
Version 4.23.0 has been released and we've de-compiled it:
– As many of you saw right off the bat the app icon has changed. Very minor change but definitely is there. For those curious
The red in the old icon was: R-204 G-0 B-0
The red in the new icon is: R-227 G-25 B-55 pic.twitter.com/ymhA9E7rEg— Tesla App Updates (iOS) (@Tesla_App_iOS) July 13, 2023
Also new in this update are changes to the Tesla app icon for iPhone users. A different shade of red is now used, while the Tesla logo is a bit smaller. However, a current bug will go back to the original icon once you open and close the app’s latest update. The new red seems a bit off.
