Stellantis Unveils EV Platform with up to 435 Miles of Range
Stellantis has unveiled its latest innovation, the STLA Medium, a global Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) platform designed to revolutionize the heart of the global vehicle market, it said on Wednesday.
The platform boasts state-of-the-art features including a best-in-class range of 700 kilometers (435 miles), energy efficiency, embedded power, and charging power.
The STLA Medium platform is designed to cater to the C- and D-segments of the market, which accounted for nearly half of the 78.5 million vehicles sold globally in 2022. The platform’s flexibility allows it to host a variety of vehicles and propulsion configurations, with the capacity to build up to two million vehicles per year in several plants worldwide, starting in Europe this year.
The STLA Medium platform is designed to exceed customer expectations in terms of range, charging time, performance, efficiency, affordability, and driving pleasure. The platform delivers a best-in-class range of more than 700 km (435 miles) with a Performance pack, and more than 500 km (310 miles) with a Standard pack.
The platform uses a 400-volt electric architecture, ensuring best-in-class energy efficiency and charging time. Owners can charge their battery from 20% to 80% in just 27 minutes. The platform also offers the flexibility to create vehicles with varying wheelbase, overall length, ground clearance, and wheel diameter.
The STLA Medium is the first of four global BEV platforms that Stellantis plans to launch, as part of its Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan. The plan includes ambitious targets such as achieving a 100% passenger car battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales mix in Europe and a 50% passenger car and light-duty truck BEV sales mix in the United States by 2030.
The platform is also designed to be future-proof, with provisions for future battery chemistries, including nickel- and cobalt-free and solid-state batteries. This allows Stellantis brands to tailor vehicle capabilities for the ideal balance of cost and performance.
